2019: Abak APC Leaders Denounce Zoning, Says its Unconstitutional

Published

on

• We did not Reject Ekon – LGA Party Chairman

Contrary to a publication trending in the media on a purported zoning or rotation arrangement, the leaders and stakeholders of APC in Abak Local Government Chapter have described such as unconstitutional and a figment of the author’s imagination.

In a communique signed and made available to Akwa Ibom INFO, the Leaders and Stakeholders of Abak APC Chapter condemn strongly, the clandestine zoning, indiscriminate rotation and indirect “anointments” of certain aspirants in the party without due processes and insisted on a level playing field for all APC aspirants in all positions to test their popularity at the ballots.

Full Communique

A COMMUNIQUE ISSUED BY THE LEADERS AND STAKEHOLDERS OF THE ALL PROGESSIVES CONGRESS, ABAK LOCAL GOVERNMENT CHAPTER

Our attention has been drawn to a publication credited to certain political merchants, we are compelled to respond to these actions and utterances which we consider inimical to the unity of our great party and the overall stability of Abak/Etim Ekpo/Ika Federal Constituency. We therefore rise to declare that:

We are the duly elected officers and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress, Abak Chapter, charged with the responsibility of administering the affairs of the party in line with the regulations and constitution of our party,

We have carefully followed the half-truths, mischief about a non-existent rotation arrangement and purported rejection of the lawmaker representing Abak/Etim Ekpo/Ika Federal Constituency by some elements whose primitive penchant remains the handling of lies and distortions to fit their narrow political narrative. We wish to state unequivocally that such petty assertions in question did not emanate from Abak APC Leaders and remains therefore, a mere figment of the author’s imaginations,

As leaders and stakeholders rooted in democracy and the values of our great party, we respect the wish of any aspirant to their democratic choice to stand in a free and fair elections both at the party primaries or general elections but shall never be a party to electoral monkey tricks, left alone the rejection of our son and experienced lawmaker like Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ekon, whose defection alongside Distinguished Senator Godswill Akpabio and other prominent leaders has strengthened and repositioned our party for electoral victory,

We debunk the attempt by these political actors and hereby re-affirm that there is no such thing as zoning or rotation in APC, a positioned reiterated recently by our State Caucus Chairman, Atuekong Don Etiebiet. We also condemn in strongest terms, what we consider a grand plot to humiliate eminent political leaders through a deliberate concoction of unwarranted propaganda and by large, the undue intimidation, threat and harassment meted-out to party stalwarts and supporters of certain aspirants in the build-up to the forthcoming party primaries,

We have also noticed serial efforts by a few desperate politicians to arrogate undeserving powers in pursuit of their petty political narrative and to promote parochial interest, demonstrating utter disregard for our party and disallow some aspirants from consulting party leaders particularly, as it regards the re-election bid of lawmakers, which does not breach any known democratic norm enshrined in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,

We believe that the 2019 contest would be won on the basis of a superior program of action; upon parade of superior will, competence, knowledge, exposure and experience; in good conscience driven by godly principles and upon the endorsement and support of the people. It will neither be won through intimidation, shortcuts nor reliance on few self-seeking personalities,

We wish to insist that natural justice, equity, fair play and democratic norms must take their natural course as we step closer to the APC primaries and subsequently, the elections thereof. We equally demand a level playing field for all APC aspirants in all positions to test their popularity at the ballots,

We condemn strongly, the clandestine zoning, indiscriminate rotation and indirect “anointments” of certain aspirants in the party without due processes and without any regard to laid down procedures and respect for party leadership and discipline,

We are fully aware that the desperations are just emerging and as events unfold, these characters will clearly adopt further mischief to advance this nefarious project. It is on this basis that we condemn this very unpatriotic, selfishly patronizing posture of the declarants. No amount of white wash or media propaganda of a few protagonists can change the resolve of the masses and mainstream politicians whose interests is that of the larger society from sending these characters where they belong; the dungeon of history.

Present at the meeting were LGA Party Chairman, Mr. Mfon Ukpe, Prince Uwemedimo Essien, Obong Ofonime George, Prince Akaninyene Kennedy, Hon. Augustine Edem, Hon. Godwin Mense Umonyem, Bernice Umoh, Saviour Emmanuel Ibanga; LGA Chapter Women Leader, Mrs Glory Effiong Umanah, all Ward Leaders and stakeholders of Abak APC Chapter.

Melaye said he does not have a problem with the party, “but my party may have a problem with Nigerians, because of the way it is presently being run.

“I will not run away from the fact that the APC is sick. And it’s not only sick but is equally suffering from what I call a dreadful continental abnormality.

Ukanafun Crisis: Unyime Idem in fresh scandal over release of wanted Kingpin

Published

on

[Sponsored]

As indigenes of Ukanafun Local Government Area crave for an end to the regime of enduring insecurity in the area, youths of the area have risen in protest against the CEO of Idems Ultimate Group, Mr Unyime Idem, who is alleged to have been involved in the release of a detained crime suspect Mr. Aniedi Okon Udosen (AKA Spirro), decrying that patronage from some stakeholders to criminal elements was aggravating the already deplorable security situation in the area.

Restating their resolve to rid the area of untoward characters, the youths gave a 14 day ultimatum for the re-arrest of the said Aniedi Okon Udosen, a.k.a Spirro, from Ikot Akpa Nkuk, who until recently was in detention for his alleged role in the Urua Akpan Eshiet carnage and other criminal acts that have negatively affected the area’s economic fortunes and mutual coexistence.

The angry youths, who converged in Ikot Akpan Nkuk, the Local Government Headquarters, according to our source, voiced their displeasure against the role of Unyime Idem, a businessman and aspirant to the Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency, whom they noted is alleged to have facilitated Spirro’s release from detention without reasonable explanation. Here the good people of Ukanafun have began to question the credibility of the aspirant.

Expressing their dissatisfaction with Unyime Idem’s alleged role in the said release of the crime kingpin, the youths decried that so much has been lost to the reign of terror and thus has beclouded the area and turned it into a relic of somnolence and despondency. They urged the well meaning citizens of Ukanafun to challenge the monster of insecurity headlong, rather than act in pretence or patronage.

Querying why Idem, a renowned telecommunications entrepreneur would identify with a character like Spirro, an ally of the slain kidnap kingpin, Akaninyene Jumbo (Iso Akpafid) whose nefarious activities have led to the series of violent crimes that have seen to the killings of innocent indigenes of the area, the youths frowned at his insensitivity to Ukanafun’s growing security challenges.

Referring to his National Assembly aspiration as self-serving, the people recounted how the business mogul relocated his family from Ukanafun, abandoning them to their fate while criminal activities in the area assumed heightened levels, only to return to facilitate a suspect’s release, to boost his political fortunes.

Trouble, according to our findings started when Aniedi Udosen (Spirro) upon his return from detention, went round threatening those suspected to have volunteered information that led to his arrest, boasting to be enjoying Unyime Idem’s protection and support, after which he proceeded to a church known as Glorious Parish Liberty Ministry at Park lane, for a thanksgiving service, on Sunday.

Mr. Udosen, alleged to be the leader of a recently banned cult organization in the state, known as the Iceland group, may have assured the National Assembly hopeful the support and protection by his group, during the upcoming election. This lends credence to the suspicion that some politicians were benefiting from the unrest.

Corroborating the position of youths of the area, members of the Ukanafun chapter of Akwa Ibom Professional Commercial motorcyclists Association (APCOMA) who recently mobilized support for Unyime Idem’s National Assembly aspiration, also protested against the release of Spirro, whom they noted has made life unbearable for them.

Led by the chapter Chairman of APCOMA in the area, Mr. Edidiong Friday Iwuo, the group announced their withdrawal of an earlier support to Idem, burning some of his campaign materials including banners, stickers and t-shirts, while promising to mobilize their members to support any aspirant that will have the people’s welfare at heart.

Announcing that the decision to withdraw their support from Idem was in solidarity with colleagues who have lost their lives and means of livelihood to the reign of insecurity, members of APCOMA decried the business mogul’s involvement in Spirro’s release, describing his disposition to such patronage as taking sides with people who have wrought havoc in the area.

They called on the security agencies not to relent in their bid to rid Ukanafun and its environs of criminal elements, regardless of statuses of those found culpable, declaring their resolve to mobilize indigenes of the area against perpetrators of various crimes, so as to enhance the return of peace to the troubled area.

Summarily, as residents perceive a more virulent security lapse lurking with the release of Mr. Udosen, the entire members of APCOMA and the youths of Ukanafun, in one accord, have pledged their lives to the hands of Mr. Idem, whom they swear will hold responsible in case of subsequent security misdemeanour in the area!

Efforts by Akwa Ibom INFO to get reaction from Mr. Idem were unsuccessful as at the time of filling this report.
