Ushie declares for 2019 Presidential poll

Published

on

A new entrant, Francis Adie Ushie, a seasoned banker, has joined the race for the 2019 presidency on the platform of Believe Nigeria People’s Party (BNPP).

According to him, BNPP was formed in 2017 following the call by Nigerian musician, Tuface Idibia on Nigerians to rally against the intolerable levels of poverty, unemployment rate, disease, insecurity, leadership absence and general leadership ineptitude.

Speaking while making his intention public, he said, “I asked myself at the rally which the convener himself later opted out of, that the President we were protesting against was recuperating in London and may not even know what was happening at home so, why don’t we form a new political party to contest, win and be in government ourselves? And BNPP was birthed.”

Stressing some of the party’s objectives to include bringing improvement to all the development sectors of the country, Ushie said, “Since independence, Nigeria as a country has failed to attain power independence. Power means everything so, we are in talks with contractors from Canada, Germany, and Norway; these are countries that have achieved power independence and have excess, they will build us new power plants and plan foreign exchange in the sector within foreseeable future. This is the first contract we shall award.”

The Lagos State University graduate said owning to youth negligence, absence of platforms and non-inclusiveness in governance since independence, the past and present governments are now being haunted by their own shadow.

He added, “Knowing the importance of the well being of Nigerians, we shall build a world class Hospital in Kano, Enugu and Lagos, and equip them with up to date facilities and funding and stop medical tourism.”

He however commended the present government for the school feeding programme and the growth of the agriculture sector, stressing, “we are poised to take agriculture to the next technological height, as we shall train our citizens in mechanised farming, have internal food security and become Africa’s largest food export.

“We have mapped out modalities to make Benue State the most advanced agricultural hub in sub-Saharan Africa and pride of the nation.”

Ukanafun Crisis: Unyime Idem in fresh scandal over release of wanted Kingpin

Published

on

[Sponsored]

As indigenes of Ukanafun Local Government Area crave for an end to the regime of enduring insecurity in the area, youths of the area have risen in protest against the CEO of Idems Ultimate Group, Mr Unyime Idem, who is alleged to have been involved in the release of a detained crime suspect Mr. Aniedi Okon Udosen (AKA Spirro), decrying that patronage from some stakeholders to criminal elements was aggravating the already deplorable security situation in the area.

Restating their resolve to rid the area of untoward characters, the youths gave a 14 day ultimatum for the re-arrest of the said Aniedi Okon Udosen, a.k.a Spirro, from Ikot Akpa Nkuk, who until recently was in detention for his alleged role in the Urua Akpan Eshiet carnage and other criminal acts that have negatively affected the area’s economic fortunes and mutual coexistence.

The angry youths, who converged in Ikot Akpan Nkuk, the Local Government Headquarters, according to our source, voiced their displeasure against the role of Unyime Idem, a businessman and aspirant to the Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency, whom they noted is alleged to have facilitated Spirro’s release from detention without reasonable explanation. Here the good people of Ukanafun have began to question the credibility of the aspirant.

Expressing their dissatisfaction with Unyime Idem’s alleged role in the said release of the crime kingpin, the youths decried that so much has been lost to the reign of terror and thus has beclouded the area and turned it into a relic of somnolence and despondency. They urged the well meaning citizens of Ukanafun to challenge the monster of insecurity headlong, rather than act in pretence or patronage.

Querying why Idem, a renowned telecommunications entrepreneur would identify with a character like Spirro, an ally of the slain kidnap kingpin, Akaninyene Jumbo (Iso Akpafid) whose nefarious activities have led to the series of violent crimes that have seen to the killings of innocent indigenes of the area, the youths frowned at his insensitivity to Ukanafun’s growing security challenges.

Referring to his National Assembly aspiration as self-serving, the people recounted how the business mogul relocated his family from Ukanafun, abandoning them to their fate while criminal activities in the area assumed heightened levels, only to return to facilitate a suspect’s release, to boost his political fortunes.

Trouble, according to our findings started when Aniedi Udosen (Spirro) upon his return from detention, went round threatening those suspected to have volunteered information that led to his arrest, boasting to be enjoying Unyime Idem’s protection and support, after which he proceeded to a church known as Glorious Parish Liberty Ministry at Park lane, for a thanksgiving service, on Sunday.

Mr. Udosen, alleged to be the leader of a recently banned cult organization in the state, known as the Iceland group, may have assured the National Assembly hopeful the support and protection by his group, during the upcoming election. This lends credence to the suspicion that some politicians were benefiting from the unrest.

Corroborating the position of youths of the area, members of the Ukanafun chapter of Akwa Ibom Professional Commercial motorcyclists Association (APCOMA) who recently mobilized support for Unyime Idem’s National Assembly aspiration, also protested against the release of Spirro, whom they noted has made life unbearable for them.

Led by the chapter Chairman of APCOMA in the area, Mr. Edidiong Friday Iwuo, the group announced their withdrawal of an earlier support to Idem, burning some of his campaign materials including banners, stickers and t-shirts, while promising to mobilize their members to support any aspirant that will have the people’s welfare at heart.

Announcing that the decision to withdraw their support from Idem was in solidarity with colleagues who have lost their lives and means of livelihood to the reign of insecurity, members of APCOMA decried the business mogul’s involvement in Spirro’s release, describing his disposition to such patronage as taking sides with people who have wrought havoc in the area.

They called on the security agencies not to relent in their bid to rid Ukanafun and its environs of criminal elements, regardless of statuses of those found culpable, declaring their resolve to mobilize indigenes of the area against perpetrators of various crimes, so as to enhance the return of peace to the troubled area.

Summarily, as residents perceive a more virulent security lapse lurking with the release of Mr. Udosen, the entire members of APCOMA and the youths of Ukanafun, in one accord, have pledged their lives to the hands of Mr. Idem, whom they swear will hold responsible in case of subsequent security misdemeanour in the area!

Efforts by Akwa Ibom INFO to get reaction from Mr. Idem were unsuccessful as at the time of filling this report.

APC fixes new date for Ekiti Governorship primaries

Published

on

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced new date for Ekiti State governorship primaries.

The spokesman of the party, Bolaji Abdullahi, told newsmen on Tuesday that the primary election will hold on Friday May 11th, 2018.

Abdullahi, said the primary will still be conducted by the Governor Tanko Al- Makura led Committee, the only exception being the substitution of secretary of the committee.

AKWA IBOM INFO recalls that the primary election, which held on Saturday was suspended indefinitely over violence that erupted on alleged fraud being perpetrated by a particular aspirant.

They smashed ballot boxes and prevented delegates from voting.

Only delegates from four local government areas had concluded their voting. It was the turn of the fifth council when the violence erupted.

Trouble started at about 5.30pm when some agents raised observations about how the process was being allegedly compromised, accusing men of the Department of State Services (DSS) of dictating to delegates who they should vote for.

Police and other security agencies shot sporadically into the air when the situation was escalating into a full blown violence among the camps.
